It’s as simple as taking a photo of yourself now, along with a brief video of some body fat measurements, then you have 6 months to lose 25 lbs of fat. When you’re done, take your photo and measurement video again to show us that you’ve lost 25 lbs of fat and we’ll get you set up with your Mexico vacation. Unlike our previous 12-week challenge, everyone who completes the 25-Lb Fat Loss Challenge will win the vacation prize. There is no voting process or prize draw.
Everyone who completes the challenge and loses 25 lbs of body fat will receive will receive seven nights at Chad’s vacation home in beautiful Loreto, Mexico. Loreto is halfway down the Baja on the Sea of Cortez and the home overlooks the water, golf course, and the Sierra La Giganta mountain range. It's only 5 to 10 minutes from the new Loreto airport and Alaska Airlines flies there daily.
Chad’s home is 1800 sq. feet with a 800 sq. foot main deck and then an extra 3rd story look-out tower that's covered with a tile roof, built-in fan, bar and bar stools. There are 2 bedrooms – each with a king-size bed. Everything in the home is new, including all furniture, appliances, TV/Stereo/DVD, wi-fi, etc.
Loreto offers some of the best fishing and kayaking in the world. There are a variety of islands with white sand beaches and crystal clear water, perfect for snorkeling. There's also excellent hiking, paddle-boarding, biking, golfing, shopping, whale-watching, and as a guest, you'll have full access to the really nice resort within walking distance. There are swimming pools near the home and at the resort, including a swim-up bar and full menu.
There are also a variety of wonderful restaurants, bars, and shops in the town of Loreto and it's all very safe. The winner can bring up to 5 guests. The winner (and guests) will have an incredible time in Loreto and we're excited for them to experience this amazing place!
To get started we just need a picture and a short video of some measurements, but don’t worry, we’ll make the steps really easy. You can do this by yourself, or for more fun get a friend to help. You will need:
Step 1: Register for the Challenge
Registration for the challenge is $6.95, to cover administrative costs and to ensure that everyone who completes the challenge wins the vacation prize. To register, click this registration link to go to the registration form.
Step 2: Take a ‘Before’ picture
Take a photo of the front of you, and then also a side view – showing from your head to knees. You can have a friend take the picture, or do it by yourself in front of a large mirror. We suggest wearing a swimsuit or whatever shows a lot of your body, so you can really see the progress made. We’ll keep it 100% confidential and you’ll be so happy you did this once you have your amazing “after” photo next to it! If possible, take your picture in front of a white or light colored background, with lots of lighting from in front of you so that there are minimal shadows.
Step 3: Take a video of your measurements
This video will record your waist and body fat measurements, so get your measuring tape and body fat measuring tool ready (scale or calipers). If you have a friend then they can record the video, or if you’re doing it by yourself then position the phone or camera so that you are in the shot. On a phone, using the front camera to see the shot on the screen works great.
First, take your measuring tape and measure your waist circumference around the largest part, typically just below the belly button. Hold the tape up to the camera so that the measurement is clear, and take note of the number. Next, measure your body fat. If you’re using a scale, zero it and step on, moving the camera to the scale to record the measurement, then note down the number. If you’re using calipers, we need a measurement from just above your right hip bone, called the suprailiac location. Follow the Caliper measuring instructions here and hold the measurement up to the camera. To calculate your body fat percentage using the measurements, refer to the chart that comes with your fat calipers.
Finally, to get your starting fat weight you just need to multiply your starting weight by your fat percentage:
Weight * body fat % = fat weight.
In a calculator, enter your starting weight, hit ‘multiply’, enter your fat percentage number (from the chart above), hit ‘percentage’, then hit ‘equals’.
For example: 200lbs * 30% = 60lbs fat weight.
While you have your video camera/phone out, we’d really appreciate it if you’d take a quick video explaining what you want to accomplish and why. This helps us learn a little bit about you and your reasons for participating.
Step 4: Fill out the challenge form
To know that you’ve got started we need you to fill out a short form. Click on this: Start the Challenge! form link and tell us your name, email, starting fat weight, waist measurement and starting date.
Step 5: Upload
Finally, follow this challenge upload page link to go to the upload page. Click the ‘Choose files’ button and select the picture and measurement video, then fill in your first/last name and email address. If you used the camera on your phone for the picture and video, then going to the upload page on your phone makes it easy to select the picture and video. If you used a camera, upload the picture and video to your computer and upload from there.

Frequently Asked Questions
To participate in the challenge we just need a ‘before’ picture, and measurements of your waist and starting body fat recorded on a short video. When you complete the challenge, you’ll take these measurements again and record another video. Details of the instructions can be found above on this page.
We typically recommend using measuring calipers or a scale that calculates bodyfat %, as these methods can be inexpensive and are widely available. However, we would also happily accept body fat measurements using other methods, such as:
- Hydrostatic weighing method, which can often be administered at a local hospital, clinic, or university.
- Using a bioelectrical impedance machine, which is essentially a professional version of a home bodyfat scale, and can be found at fitness centers or through personal trainers.
- A Bodpod, otherwise known as an air displacement plethysmograph
- A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) scan, which quickly tests each body part individually.
- A 3D body scan that scans your body for measurements of various body parts and then tracks your body fat via a corresponding app.
You can begin your challenge any time within 30 days of your registration. Your challenge does not start automatically when you initially register as participants often like to take some time to learn about our nutrition and activity recommendations before they begin, so that they’re fully prepared. You have 6 months to lose 25 lbs of body fat. This challenge is not a race! Decreasing body fat too quickly can be damaging to your body, and we do not recommend ‘crash diets’ or other methods of dramatically reducing body fat which may be unsafe. 6 months should be plenty of time to lose 25 lbs of fat in a steady, safe and sustainable way.
We would love to hear from you regarding the obstacles you encountered during your challenge, and will happily help you give the challenge another try. Our personal coaching service can also be effective if you feel that you could benefit from 1-1 support and customized nutrition and exercise plans to match your specific needs. However, the challenge will run even if you do not lose 25 lbs of fat, so unfortunately we cannot issue refunds for your registration fee.
Please do, and we would be happy to provide advice for another try if you encountered obstacles previously. Just write a blog in the community and we’ll provide some feedback, and you’ll probably get lots of help and encouragement from the community members too. However, you cannot register more than once at the same time, i.e. you must complete one challenge before you start the next one.
Our job is to keep you motivated and provide some accountability as you work towards your health goals. Also, the work required to run your challenge will happen whether you participate fully or not. Therefore, we cannot provide refunds once you have registered for the challenge.
You need to complete your fat loss during the course of one challenge registration period. If you end a challenge and start another one you will need to submit your measurement video again, and the 25 lb loss will be based on your second measurements.
No. Everyone’s needs are different with air travel, as participants will be travelling from a range of places and will have different preferences for airlines and comfort. We provide the luxury vacation home in Mexico for 7 nights, but participants need to make their own travel arrangements.
Children are welcome, and we very much encourage you to bring family or friends to celebrate your success. Children under the age of 3 do not count against the person limit.
There are two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed, bathroom, and an amazing view.
There’s also a queen-size sofa sleeper in the living room.
I’m sorry, no, pets are not allowed.
A rental car isn’t necessary, as the home is walking distance to the beach, 5 pools, the golf course, resort, restaurants, bars, shops, and many other fun things to do.
However, there are a lot of other great things to see an do outside of our community neighborhood and a car makes it convenient, such as driving to the marina to get a boat (and captain) to go fishing, whale-watching, snorkeling, etc. There’s lots of great hiking and really amazing restaurants in downtown Loreto as well. If you want to rent a car, just let Chad know and he’ll get you a really good discount.
You can also rent golf carts, which are really fun for getting around the community neighborhood and going to the beach and pools.
There’s one step to enter the main level, which includes the living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs includes a bedroom, bathroom, terrace and third story tower, so not accessible to those with limited mobility.
Loreto offers some of the best fishing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and whale-watching in the world. The nearby islands offer incredible white sand beaches and really good snorkeling. There are 5 swimming pools in the community, including an Olympic lap pool and another pool with a swim-up bar and restaurant.
The vacation home is next to a world-class golf course and you can enjoy a week of unlimited golf for just $150! There’s also a health club and spa that you’ll have access to. You can also go biking, hiking, shopping, horseback-riding, as well as ride ATV’s.
There’s also a community center and a variety of other fun games, such as foosball, billiards, darts, ping pong, etc.

If you have to rearrange, please let Chad know as soon as possible. You can make changes up to 60 days prior to your reserved dates to guarantee being able to select different dates. Within 60 days re-selecting dates will depend on if we can fill your spot. As long as someone else claims your week, you’re welcome to book another week any time.

You can schedule your trip any time within 2 years of successfully completing the challenge.
